About Michael

 Michael Hegarty is an artist working and living in Kinsale, a town in county Cork on the south coast of the Rep. of Ireland. Michael has been developing his paintings on and off for nearly 30 years since leaving the Crawford School of Art in Cork in the early 1980s.

Michael established this online gallery in October 2010 in order to showcase images of his work.


1957 Born in Kinsale Co. Cork.

1981 Diploma in Fine Art ( Painting - Printmaking ), at C.M.S.A. Cork.

1982 Principles of Teaching Art course at the Crawford Municipal School of Art,

in Cork.

1985 Joined the Visual Arts Centre, Dublin.

1986-87 Ran a Community Mural Painting course in Cabra, Dublin.

1987 Member of the Association of Artists in Ireland.

1988 Member of the Cork Artist Collective.

1988-1998 Freelance scenic artist in many Dublin theatres and for many

theatre companies including: the Gate and Gaiety theatres, and the Dublin

Grand Opera Society. A long association with the Passion Machine

Theatre Co. including acting as production manager on tours to Poland and

Greece. Scenic work in Film and TV includes: In the Name of the Father and Everlasting Piece.

1989 Grant from the Arts Council of Ireland.

1991 Artist in the Gallery as part of E.V.+A. 91.

1994 Curator of the visual art exhibition for Songs of the Reaper festival at the Project Arts Centre, Dublin.

1995-96 Artist in residence at the fire Station Artists Studios, Buckingham St. Dublin.

1995-97 Director of the Visual Arts Centre, 20 Great Strand St. Dublin 1.

1998-99 Studio in Passage West, Co. Cork.

1999-2000 Studio in Charles St. Dublin.

2001 Moved to Kinsale Co. Cork.

Curator of Exhibition 2001 for Kinsale Arts Festival.


2011 "Pop up Exhibition" Main St. Kinsale.
